The song accompanying this page is an arrangement of "Dream a Little Dream of Me", composed by Fabian Andre and Wilber Schwandt and arranged by Mihály "Hermit" Horváth. You may listen to it, if you like, but I recommend turning down the volume a little first!

who is butter?

I met Butter in December, 2024. He showed up on my back patio while I was living in San Antonio. I brought out some tuna for him and he hissed at me before promptly eating the whole can. He then walked in from the patio and made himself at home. Later that day, I went out to get a soda from the vending machine by the pool, and came back to him eating an entire stick of butter I had inadvertently left on the counter. In this moment I realized he was communicating to me his name, and he has been Butter ever since.

I spent some time trying to see if Butter had a prior owner, but he had no chip and it appeared his entire life prior was as a stray. My roommates gracefully allowed me to bring him from San Antonio to their residence, and despite cohabiting with me for nearly a year prior, this is when I truly started considering him "my" cat (whatever that means).

Butter is very sweet. Like most cats, he loves attention and food. He is very helpful in the morning waking me up in time for his breakfast by batting at my face with his paws and knocking things off my desk. At night, he performs The Ritual, where he climbs on my blanketed legs and kneads them until I fall asleep. He is very talkative, especially when he is hungry. We all love him very much, despite his new hobbies of destroying my roommates' furniture and trying to get in the pantry to eat all the bread.

When I started making my website, Butter asked me to make a page for him. I couldn't not oblige. His hobbies (other than wanton destruction) include: laying in the sun, trying to get into the garage, and singing. His favorite song is "Dream a Little Dream of Me" by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and inspired by them, he is trying to get his own singing career off the ground. I offered to play bass for him, but my roommates don't seem interested in playing the guitar or maraca. Please send me an e-mail (lauregami at gmail dot com) with a sample if you're interested in joining the band! A good maraca player is hard to come by!
